How Do I Request The Contraceptive Pill?
Get your contraceptive pill, same day from a pharmacy
You can now get the contraceptive pill directly from a pharmacy without a prescription, no need to see a doctor or nurse, and it’s free.
Who can use this service?
- If you are starting the pill for the first time
- If you are restarting the pill after a break
What to expect
- A private consultation with a pharmacist
- Health checks (height, weight, blood pressure)
- Advice on how to take the pill and possible side effects
Pharmacies offer same-day consultations and dispensing, which is faster than our 48-hour turnaround for pill requests.

If you prefer to request your pill through us:
Progesterone-Only Pill (e.g. Cerazette, Cerelle)
Please complete our Progesterone Only Contraceptive Pill Request Form.
Your request will be processed within 48 working hours. Once approved, you can view it in your NHS App under the ‘My Approved Prescriptions’ tab.
Combined Pill (e.g. Rigevidon, Gedarel, Millinette)
Please complete our Repeat Oral Contraceptive Pill Request Form.
